Listed below are data sources that were most recently added to either this Research Guide and/or the Google Custom Search Engine.

Numeric Data Services, a part of the Social Science and Area Studies Services department, is physically located on the third floor of Bird Library. NDS is currently staffed by the Numeric Data Services Librarian and shares space with the Geographic and Statistical Information Center (G-SIC).

Numeric Data Services can provide help with:

• Finding data to analyze for student and faculty research. These data may come from many sources such as government agencies, the Inter-university Consortium for Social and Political Research (ICPSR), Wharton Research Data Services, and many others.
• Data management and analysis.
• Use of statistical software, especially SAS, Stata and SPSS.
• Advice on research methods, study design, and questionnaire construction for those collecting their own data.

Additionally, NDS can provide classes, workshops or demonstrations of any of the above services.

Data Resources

Numeric Data Services lists and describes many sources and resources for data and statistics on many topics. Some of the information you may find through this site is ready for use in a paper or report.  Other information may come in the form of electronic files that can or must be analyzed using a statistical software package such as SAS, Stata or SPSS. All of these are available in the Geographic and Statistical Information Centeron the third floor of Bird Library. The web sites listed here are only a small fraction of what is available and are presented as a starting point for your search. We highly recommend using the Google CSE below to find the most up-to-date information. If you cannot find what you need, please contact the Data Librarian for help.

Statistical Software

Numeric Data Services currently supports the three major statistical software packages, SAS, Stata, and SPSS. Windows versions of each are installed on some computers in the Geographic and Statistical Information Center (G-SIC). We have copies of the user manuals as well as supporting materials for use in the lab. Users are welcome to come to the lab and Users needing assistance with any of these should make an appointment with the Data Librarian.
