Research Tools for Historic Sound Recordings

About Sound Beat

Sound Beat logo

The Belfer Audio Archive at Syracuse University has one of the largest collections of recorded sound in the United States. To share the collection with the public, James O’Connor writes and produces a radio show, called Sound Beat, which is broadcast daily on NPR stations around the country and at http://soundbeat.org. Each episode of Sound Beat features a recording from Belfer, highlighting its musical features as well as its historical significance.

Listen to a few episodes at the Sound Beat Archive to get a feel for the show and the type of research involved when examining an historic audio recording.
