General Databases covering Communication & Rhetorical studies

Use the databases on this list to access full text and bibliographic records for articles in some of our more general databases. Most of these resources are not limited to Communication & Rhetorical Studies materials, but all contain relevant publications for your research in this field.

    • Communication Source
      Combines Communication and Mass Media Complete and Communication Abstracts (formerly published by Sage), and includes many unique sources not previously available in other databases. Communication Source offers abstracts and indexing as well as full-text content from publications worldwide pertaining to Communication, Advertising, Linguistics, Rhetoric and Discourse, Speech-Language Pathology, Media Studies and other fields relevant to the discipline.
    • Sage Journals Online
      SAGE publishes more than 500 academic journals in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science, Technology and Medicine.
      Relevant titles include:Communication Research, Discourse & Communication, Discourse Studies, Journal of Business and Technical Communication, Journal of Business and Technical Communication, Media, Culture & Society, and Television & New Media.

    • ProQuest Central is the largest multidisciplinary database with over 11,000 titles, with over 8,000 titles in full-text. It serves as the central resource for researchers at all levels in all markets. Over 160 subjects areas are covered extensively in this product including business and economics, health and medical, news and world affairs, technology, social sciences and more.



    • DOAJ: Media and Communications
      The Directory of Open Access Journals is a searchable interface providing access to the huge number of online Open Access journals freely available via the internet.
      Relevant titles include: American Communication Journal, Journal of Intercultural Communication, M/C Journal, and Invisible Culture.

    • JSTOR
      Full-text archive of scholarly publications in mathematics, science, the arts and humanities, and the social sciences.
      Relevant titles include: College Composition and Communication, Rhetorica, Rhetoric Review, & Newsletter: Rhetoric Society of America.

    • Project Muse

      Full-text online access to all journals published by the Johns Hopkins University Press.

    • International Index to the Performing Arts
      Index and abstracts to 465 periodicals in archaeology, art, classics, film, folklore, journalism, linguistics, music, the performing arts, philosophy, religion, world history, and world literature.

    • Film & Television Literature Index

  • Chicano Database
    Bibliographic materials on Mexican-American topics 1960 to the present. Scope expanded 1992 to include the broader Latino experience, including Cuban Americans and Central American immigrants. Includes the Spanish Speaking Mental Health Database.

  • GenderWatch
    Full-text publications that focus on the impact of gender across a broad spectrum of subject areas.

  • Ethnic News Watch
    A collection of full text articles from 200 publications covering the ethnic, minority and native press in America with international coverage. ENW provides news, culture and history from a broad diversity of perspectives and viewpoints.
  • International Index to Black Periodicals

  • PAIS International

Business/ Organizational / Marketing Communication

    • ABI Inform
      Index and abstracts to articles from leading business and management publications, including English-language titles from outside the U.S. Full abstract and indexing coverage begins with 1992. Full text available for over 600 titles.
       
    • World Advertising Research Center
      The WARC.com database contains over 25,000 articles, case studies, research reports and summaries covering all areas of marketing communications drawn from more than 30 leading content sources worldwide. These include WARC's own publications (e.g. Admap, the International Journal of Advertising) as well as those from its many partner organizations.

 

    • Business Full Text
      Provides indexing and abstracting of articles from over 800 English-language business magazines, trade and research journals, plus the full text of selected periodicals.

      Business Source Elite contains full text from the world's top management and marketing journals including the Harvard Business Review.

 

  • Proquest Research Library
    Covers a wide range of topics including the arts, business, education, general interest, law, military, psychology, and women's interests.

    Citations, abstracts, and indexing of the international serials literature in political science and its complementary fields from 1989 to the present, including international relations, law, and public administration / policy.
  • Polling the Nations
