Cataloging Resources

Cataloging resources for IST 616, 604, and general use: includes links to tools, authority links, and classification systems.

Cataloger's Desktop and Classification Web Access

How to connect to:

  • Cataloger's Desktop
  • Classification Web

Please note: These resources are used by the staff of SU Libraries on weekdays during business hours.  In order to avoid reaching the maximum number of simultaneous users, please use these as possible during off-peak times (evenings and weekends). Also, when you are finished with RDA Toolkit each time, please log out instead of closing the browser window.

Start with Cataloger's Desktop:

Enter the login information you received for this resource. You will be prompted to change your password the first time you log in.

Connecting to Classification Web:

  • Click Contents on the upper left corner and click on Classification Web
  •  In the upper right hand corner under Preferences, click Classification Web, enter the login information you received for this resource, and select Open Classification Web within Cataloger's Desktop. This will set your preferences so you can access Classification Web directly from Cataloger's Desktop in future sessions.
  • To set up Classification Web to auto-login, click Contents on the upper left corner and select Classification Web. Then click on the Auto Login menu link at the bottom of the middle pane.

The Classification Web interface runs on Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari.

RDA Toolkit Access

Connecting to RDA Toolkit

Please note that RDA Toolkit has 2 versions: the Official, current version; and the Original, older version. The instructions to access are different for each version.

Official RDA Toolkit (current version)

Start at RDA Toolkit. Once you click this link, you will be prompted to authenticate with your SU NetID. Once you login, you will be directed to the RDA Toolkit landing page.

To create a profile:

  • After clicking on the RDA Toolkit link above, you will see the landing page. On the upper left you should see Syracuse University Library, and on the upper right there is a Profile drop down menu:
  • From there, select Create a Profile Account if new to RDA Toolkit. If you have an account already, you can select login. Once your profile is created and you log in the first time, you can select Remember Me so that you do not have to enter your login each time you access RDA Toolkit, but instead see your login pre-filled, and click Login.

Click "Help" in the upper right of the RDA Toolkit landing page for more information on getting started with RDA Toolkit, search strategies, and more.

Original RDA Toolkit (older version)
           Original RDA Toolkit

Enter your SU NetID at the prompt.

To access this version, you must create a profile. To do so, click on the create profile icon  located on the upper right of the page.
