A starting point for locating government information and specific government publications.

Locating Local documents in the collection

Documents produced by the City of Syracuse can be located in Classic Catalog by searching "Syracuse (N.Y.)" as an author search.

Documents produced by Onondaga County can be located in Classic Catalog by searching "Onondaga County (N.Y.)" as an author search.

These items will have Library of Congress call numbers.

Locating State documents in the collection

Documents we receive from New York State can be searched and located easlily by using the Classic Catalog online.

Start by going to the Classic Catalog Advanced search menu and go to the "LIMITS" options. Set your "Location" to (E.S. Bird Library - Govt Docs, New York State). Now select "Apply Limits." Now enter search terms, names, phrases, etc. into the search boxes to find documents from New York State.

New York State documents have a NYDOC call number. Three letters followed by a series of numbers and letters.

(ex. EDU 619-3 BENCH 89-13745).

Materials are in print and microfiche formats.
