Using Microsoft Teams for Communication

Known Issues

Windows Defender Firewall Message
The firewall message can be safely ignored. Users can click Cancel or the X in the upper right corner. It does not affect any connections or the quality of connections of Teams by clicking Cancel. You may see this up to 3 times depending on the network you are connected to. Most people will probably only see it once with the Domain Networks checkbox checked. If you connect to a network classified as a Private network, then you may see it once more with the Private networks box checked.

Microsoft Teams and Remote Desktop
Teams should be run on a local device (PC or smartphone) when attending a meeting. Remote Desktop connections interfere with audio for most web conferencing solutions. If you don’t want to install the client to your personal PC, you can use the web app and log in using your NetID and password.

Bandwidth Problems (Sluggishness within Teams)
With so many people working remotely, there may be periods of sluggishness. This is typically due to an individual’s personal Wi-Fi network capabilities/bandwidth and the number of users on their personal home network  If you are experiencing sluggishness while in a Teams Meeting or within a Teams Chat, turn off your video and also click the 3 dots and select "Turn off incoming video."
