Social Justice Reading List

A guide focused on conducting research on social justice issues and providing resources on social justice causes

Introduction

Research on neurodiversity is often (but not always) embedded in the larger context of disability / disability studies. As a result, some of the resources listed here - particularly journals and databases - offer a wider breadth of materials, including those that specifically address neurodiversity or neurodivergence.

The wider academic field of Disability Studies aims to enhance the understanding of disability by incorporating social, cultural, historical, legal, and political perspectives, including the connections between disability and other identities. The field also aims to center the experiences of disabled people and emphasizes the role of the disability community in defining problems and evaluating solutions while drawing on a variety of disciplines in order to understand the social, cultural, and political situation of people with disabilities including history, sociology, law, policy studies, economics, anthropology, geography, philosophy, theology, gender studies, media studies, architecture, and the arts.
