Thank you to former LGBTQ Studies instructor Jorge A. Castillo, the LGBTQ Resource Center, Reference and Instruction Librarian Michelle Mitchell, and Collection Lead Librarian Rachel Fox Von Swearingen for creating this list.
From childhood to adolescence, these titles highlight the experiences of LGBTQIA+ authors through personal narratives. Some titles discuss the challenges of navigating rigidly heteronormative cultures, while others provide insight into the unbridled joy of becoming oneself to the fullest extent.
Despite misinformation and acts of oppression, queer and trans people are not a novelty of the generation. Throughout history, LGBTQIA+ people have persevered through ongoing stigmas, acute marginalization, and silencing through censorship. These resources highlight the breadth and contributions of queer theory through a historical lens, while also existing in pursuit of a more inclusive future.
The films in this section include both short- and feature-length films of LGBTQIA+ experiences.
