Hidden Gems on Campus

The People’s Place Café, located on the lower level of Hendricks Chapel, is a student-run, nonprofit coffee shop offering great food, great prices, and a cool atmosphere.

The Syracuse University Art Museum has wonderful exhibitions and programming throughout the year. It's free to enter and you can just wander around and check out the art at your leisure. If you'd like, please see their events calendar.

Another great location for those in need of some art is Light Work, a non-profit organization in Watson Hall that provides support to artists working in photography and related media, through residencies, publications, and a community-access lab facility. They have a gallery with regular exhibits that you are welcome to visit.

There is a MakerSpace on campus that is available to everyone! Highly recommend arranging for a tour. There are people there to show you how to use the equipment properly and consult on projects.

We have an observatory! The Holden Observatory has been around since 1887 and you can arrange for a tour for yourself and/or a group.

Check out the Esports Centers in Schine and the Barnes Center. Even if you've never played before! They have orientations to their facilities and games for all experience levels and interests.

Institute for Veterans and Military Families
"The IVMF is the first interdisciplinary national institute in higher education focused on the social, economic, education and policy issues impacting veterans and their families post-service. Through our focus on veteran-facing programming, research and policy, employment and employer support, and community engagement, the institute provides in-depth analysis of the challenges facing the veteran community, captures best practices and serves as a forum to facilitate new partnerships and strong relationships between the individuals and organizations committed to making a difference for veterans and military families."
Office of Veteran and Military Affairs (OVMA)
OVMA empowers student veterans and military-connected students to achieve their academic and post-service goals and fosters a supportive and welcoming campus climate for all military-connected students, faculty, staff, employees, and alums of Syracuse University.
Student Veterans Organization (SVO)
The mission of the Syracuse University Student Veterans Organization is to provide veterans, military connected students, and military family members who attend Syracuse University or SUNY ESF with resources, support, and advocacy needed to succeed in higher education and following graduation. Syracuse's SVO is part of the national organization Student Veterans of America. Connecting with the SVO is a great way to start creating ties on campus and in the community.
Betty and Michael D. Wohl Veterans Legal Clinic
The Betty and Michael D. Wohl Veterans Legal Clinic (VLC) assists veterans with claims before the Department of Veterans Affairs and discharge upgrades. Other clinical programs at the College of Law have dedicated priority slots to assist veterans in the areas of family law, elder law, community development, consumer law, tax law, criminal law, disability rights, and bankruptcy. National Veterans Resource Center
The National Veterans Resource Center (NVRC) represents an unprecedented commitment by Syracuse University to cultivate and lead innovative academic, government, and community collaborations positioned to empower those who have served in defense of the nation. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as the center of veteran life on the campus of Syracuse University, in the local community, and across Central New York.
VetSuccess on Campus
“Encouraging, promoting, and supporting veterans to be successful in their educational and career endeavors.” The United States Office of Veterans Affairs Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) division partners with certain schools to provide a dedicated staff member on campus to enhance the educational experience for student veterans. This program is known as VetSuccess on Campus (VSOC). Syracuse University is the only VSOC partner school in the state of New York, and because of this, we are able to offer added value to our student veterans, including help with benefits, career exploration, aptitude testing, adjustment counseling, and more.

Coach Doc Food Pantry at Hendricks Chapel
The pantry is intended to directly serve individuals who experience hunger, food insecurity, and a lack of resources. The Hendricks Chapel Food Pantry is stocked with food and personal care items, available at no cost to all students with valid Syracuse University or SUNY ESF ID.
Counseling Center
"The mission of the Syracuse University Counseling Center is to support and enhance student health and wellness by providing comprehensive mental health, substance abuse, and sexual assault/relationship violence related services. Operating within a multicultural framework and with a social justice orientation, the Counseling Center strives to assist students by providing support during times of crisis, providing advocacy when needed, facilitating problem resolution, enhancing coping skills, promoting personal growth, and supporting academic success."
Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) by Carebridge
"Syracuse University is committed to the total well-being of our community and to providing support and services to help you and your loved ones manage challenges at work and at home. Faith Communities & Weekly Services at Hendricks Chapel
Hendricks Chapel hosts 16 chaplains across six world religions. Chaplaincies nurture the spiritual/ethical lives of students, faculty, and staff and help them learn to listen to those with different beliefs.
