Barner-McDuffie House Collections: Welcome

This guide provides general information about the Barner-McDuffie House and the collections they have in their building.

Barner-McDuffie House

The Barner-McDuffie House is a place that acknowledges, validates and uplifts the Black experience, benefitting all students on the Syracuse University campus. The Barner-McDuffie House is also a place of belonging, to grow individual and collective success, to celebrate culture and identity, while learning from one another through conversations, events and community support. Please visit the Barner-McDuffie House website to learn more information about the programs and services they offer. Be sure to check out the events offered by the Barner-McDuffie House too!

The Barner-McDuffie House Library has a large selection of books featuring Black authors and illustrators! Students are able to read these books in the Quiet Lounge or check-out a book using the Library Loan System form.

Borrowing Process and Policy

  1. The book rental period is up to sixty days. Students who do not return books within the sixty day timeframe will receive an email requesting the book(s) be returned with a deadline.
  2. If the books are not returned, become lost or damaged, the student will be unable to check-out another book for the rest of the semester. However, the student will have opportunities to borrow books again following the end of that semester.
