Instructions

Peer observation instructions

This program is available to librarians who wish to be observed by their peers and receive constructive feedback. It also provides an opportunity for graduate students such as Information Literacy scholars to observe librarians teaching in a variety of contexts.

Instructions for peer observing (not students):

1. Identify an instructor who is willing to having you observe a session.

2. Once you have agreed on a session that you will observe, send the Instructor pre-reflection form to the instructor to fill out and send to you prior to the session (this is optional to the instructor)

3. After observing the session, complete the Observer reflection form and send it to the Instructor for their files.

Instructions for being observed by a peer (not students):

1. If you are interested in being observed by a peer for a particular class identify a librarian who is able and willing (Kelly will create list of willing observers).

2. Once you have identified an observer, fill out and send them your Instructor pre-reflection form and ask them to email an observer reflection form to you after the session. If possible, send your lesson plan to the observer as well.

Instructions for Student Observers:

1.Once you have a librarian whose class you will be observing, email them at least 48 hours to confirm room and time.

2. Attend the class as a silent, unobtrusive observer.  Arrive on time and find a quiet place to sit.

3. After your observation session, fill out the Student Observer reflection form and submit it to the Information Literacy Librarian at kkdeleva@syr.edu
