The study of the Renaissance across disciplines has evolved and changed in the last fifty years, much like the study of other periods. Many interdisciplinary approaches are utilized in the field today, which scholars engage with to ask different kinds of questions that have not previously been explored in Renaissance Studies. One approach is to focus on ideas of gender and sexuality, especially when investigating women or queer people in the Renaissance. Another approach is the Global Renaissance, which argues for the Renaissance, especially in Italy, as a global phenomenon that involved the movement of diverse groups of people and goods. For an introduction to these approaches see Smarthistory's Introduction to Gender in Renaissance Italy and Expanding the Renaissance.
