Identifying Journals for Publication

Methods for Identifying Journals

  1. Use a database such as Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, or a subject specific database to do a search for your research topic. From your search results, note any journals that appear frequently
  2. Use a journal matching/journal finder website. These sites typically allow you to input the title and abstract for your manuscript, or sometimes keywords, then searches against a directory of journals and recommends the journals that most closely match your manuscript. These websites are sometimes affiliated with publishers who are attempting to match authors with one of their journals.
  3. Look at Journal Citation Reports or Google Scholar Metrics, to find the top ranked journals in specific fields by reviewing their "Categories" and "Subcategories"
  4. Look at the publications of other colleagues in your area of research to see where they're publishing
