Library Research Guide for ENL 213

Searching with Summon

ACTIVITY: Watch the following videos, "Searching with Summon" and "Finding Journal Articles" below. Then, answer the questions found in Part 2A of the worksheet.

What is Summon?

Summon is the primary search engine for collections at SU Libraries, including both print collections and content from thousands of online databases. With Summon, you can search the Library website for books, videos, articles, and much more.

Finding Journal Articles

In a lot of search tools, including Summon and many databases, there are options for refining your search built into the results screens. Once you conduct your initial search, you can narrow down the results by subject, publication date, source type, and other features.

If you remember one thing...

You should never have to pay for articles, books, or any other library resources. Even if we don't have a resource available in our collections, you can submit a request for it through our Interlibrary Loan service. This is a free service that allows you to borrow books, articles, and other materials from partnering libraries.

For more information, either check out our ILL portal or reach out to us directly if you have any questions. We are happy to help!
