How To Use This Guide

The guide is organized into the following set of pages, able to be navigated using the tabs on the left.

  • Selecting a Topic discusses selecting a topic, finding questions that interest you, and developing your topic to be appropriate for the assignment.
  • Types of Sources discusses the types of sources available, including popular vs. scholarly, contemporary vs. historical, and primary, secondary and tertiary sources.
  • Search Tools provides an overview of the databases provided by the library for finding sources in physical and electronic format.
  • Evaluating Sources discusses why evaluating sources is important to the validity of your research and provides tools and tips for evaluating websites and library materials.
  • Citation Tools and Avoiding Plagiarism provides an overview of what citation tools are available and discusses how to maintain integrity during the research process.
