Promotion Portfolio Sharing Event

In honor of our third President’s birthday, and because it’s heading towards that time of year again when all those applying for promotion are busy on organizing your portfolios, the Mentoring Team announces its 3rd Promotion Portfolio Sharing. For those not yet eligible for the next level in rank (Senior Assistant, Associate, or Librarian) come anyway and take a look to see how your peers have structured theirs to get ideas. It’s never too early to begin planning.

The Portfolios Sharing works due to the generosity of those who worked their way through the ranks of Senior Assistant, Associate , and Full Librarian, so please consider bringing your portfolio(s) to share with your colleagues. Remember one does not have to be present for the entire period although it is hope that portfolios can remain on display. We will coordinate safe-keeping and return. Please let me know if you have any questions. If you are sharing, please RSVP to pdverhey@syr.edu. Remember we need your portfolios to make the event possible.

About the Program

The Library’s Mentoring Program is intended to provide librarians with guidance and assistance relative to the Library’s promotion process and professional service and related activities. While librarians receive direction and support through the annual performance evaluation process and other interactions with managers and administrators, they also may wish to avail themselves of the expertise and experience of their colleagues. The Program is a voluntary, multifaceted team-based program that allows for both group and individual mentoring.

The Mentoring Program was featured in the Association of Research Library's Socializing New Hires SPEC Kit (2011).

Who is the Program for?

  • Librarians new to SUL.
  • Librarians coming up for promotion.
  • Librarians seeking professional development advice and opportunities.

Goals and Activities:
