Linking to SU Libraries' Online Resources

Learn how to create permanent, sharable, and proxy-friendly links to SU Libraries' online resources

Why Add Persistent Links

Why Add Persistent Links?

By adding resources from Syracuse University Libraries to your course website, whether through Blackboard, Moodle, 2U or another online platform, you make it easier for students to be aware of and access discipline or assignment specific library databases, journals, articles, and other library resources you expect them to use in their coursework and research.  Faculty interested in discussing these options are encouraged to consult with the subject specialist librarian for their discipline.

In addition to placing print or other hardcopy materials on reserve, instructors can also embed persistent links for journals and articles or can link students into course related library research guides or database lists.  Adding persistent links helps avoid copyright infringement, promotes information literacy, and provides the library with general statistics on how often these sources are consulted.

Instructors can add links to common starting points at the SU Libraries homepage, or to specific databases, individual journal titles, or (in many databases) permalinks to single articles.

Starting Points

Starting Points at the SU Libraries website

To embed links from within the SU Libraries website domain, such as these listed below, just right click or otherwise copy these URLs into your course website environment or learning management platform:

Links above are helpful portals that are easily embedded into course websites and course management systems without needing to manually configure proxy prefixed permalinks.  Additional instructions on subpages of this guide apply to other common forms of linking, including permalinking into individual articles drawn from licensed databases.
