Download the appropriate version. SciFinder Scholar software can be installed on any Windows-compatible PC or Macintosh workstation. See the full list of Hardware and Software Requirements.

SciFinder Scholar is not available from off-campus. The software can only be used on computers on the campus network within the syr.edu (IP 128.230.*.*) internet domain. It cannot be configured to work off-campus using the Library's proxy server nor does it work on the SUNY/ESF campus (see instead the ESF software server). SciFinder does not work with the VPN client supplied by ITS; changes in how it is configured prohibits access to non-university servers and applications.

For off-campus access, use SciFinder Web.

Download Procedures.

1. Download the Windows Client.
   Check the list of Hardware and Software Requirements before installing.

2. The installer program named "sfs2007_win.zip" will be downloaded. You should then see a dialog box with options to either open the file with WinZip or "Save to Disk". If you choose the latter option, the file should save to your desktop.

3. Simply double-click "sfs2007_win.zip" to manually extract the application. The easiest approach is to extract the file to your desktop. A folder named "sfs2007" should now exist on your desktop. It contains the SciFinder Scholar program, a brief getting started guide, and other helper applications.

4. After installation, you can delete the "sfs2007_win.zip" file. The "sfs2007" folder can be moved to the "Program Files" folder on your C drive.

1. Download Macintosh Client.
   Check the list of Hardware and Software Requirements before installing.
   
   
2. The installer program named "sfs2007a_osx.zip" will be downloaded. It should automatically "unzip" to an application named "SciFinder Scholar 2007a " on your desktop (or in your default download folder). If it does not automatically unzip, double-click "sfs2007a_osx.zip" to manually extract the application.
   
   
3. After installation is complete, move "SciFinder Scholar 2007a" to your "Applications" folder. You may move "sfs2007a_osx.zip" to the trash.
